Statement on Recent Developments in South Korea
Issued December 6, 2024
Pathways to Cross-Cultural Understanding (PCCU) stands in solidarity with the people of South Korea who are speaking out against the alarming actions of the Yoon Suk Yeol administration.
The declaration of martial law on December 3rd, 2024, is a direct attack on freedom of speech and democratic principles. President Yoon's attempt to establish a dictatorship through violence and oppression poses a significant threat to the country and its people.
We strongly urge President Yoon to step down immediately. We commend the bravery of the Korean people as they fight to protect their families, their country, and their fundamental freedoms.
PCCU remains committed to our core values of hope, compassion, equity, and freedom for all. We believe in the power of true democracy to create a more just and harmonious world.
Finally, we absolutely condemn the use of violence against peaceful protesters and will continue to advocate for democracy in South Korea.

About PCCU
Pathways to Cross-Cultural Understanding (PCCU) was incorporated in the State of Indiana on May 5, 2020. It was organized exclusively for educational and charitable purposes on June 16, 2020, as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
I came to have an interest in cross-cultural issues and the hardships of people who are living in foreign countries through reflecting on my own life and work in America and imagining what my father’s difficulties as an expatriate in a Japanese company when I was in grade school, were like. Since my father behaved so confidently and took pride in his excellent job performance, I had never imagined that there would be difficulties in living and working in a foreign country until I myself came to the United States for a study abroad program and subsequent careers.
Living abroad can be an exciting experience but at the same time, it can be difficult to adjust to a new culture and a new society.
We are proud to share the mission and vision of PCCU with all who are interested in making a difference in our common humanity and creating an overall higher quality of life.
Pathways to Cross-Cultural Understanding (PCCU) is an educational nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals and groups from Asia adjust to learning, working, and living in North America. Through sharing experiences and resources to promote cross-cultural understanding, we also hope to advance North Americans’ awareness of Asian cultures. PCCU creates a harmonious society so that people of all backgrounds can be confident and happy living in North America.
Through this unique mission and vision, PCCU promotes compassion for the complexity of adapting to a new culture, exchanges knowledge of unique cross-cultural implications, develops a database that allows individuals to share personal experiences in different cultures, creates a network of advocates who can connect with individuals and groups, assists in educating organizations multi-culturally, and reaches out to communities through cultural and educational programs.
The two interlocking red and blue circles of the PCCU logo indicate two different populations and geographic areas of PCCU focus, Asian and American respectively. The four colors - red, blue, green, and purple - of PCCU imply that PCCU embraces people of diverse and multicultural backgrounds. Therefore, the PCCU logo symbolically encapsulates the entire core principle of our organization and the mission and vision we wish to bring about in the world.
We appreciate your visit to our website and look forward to your participation in this exciting adventure of cross-cultural sharing and mutual enhancement with the aim of promoting confident well being and happy lives.

Statement on Anti-Asian Racism
Pathways to Cross-Cultural Understanding (PCCU) stands firmly with the Asian and Asian-American community against anti-Asian racism in the United States.
We empathize with the plight that these Asian and Asian-American communities are experiencing a series of racist attacks, in which anti-Asian racism compounded with hatred and prejudice.
We proclaim our core values. We are committed to embrace and respect all differences and uniqueness regardless of gender, sexuality, language, race, abilities, appearances, or one’s origin.
We strive to foster an inclusive environment respecting all people and cultures and treating them with dignity. We uphold the spirit of equity and fairness for people of multicultural backgrounds.
We protest violence against Asian and Asian-American communities, and we hold our ground in our opposition to anti-Asian racism.
