“Statement on the Recent Developments in South Korea - Call for Democracy in South Korea”

Pathways to Cross-Cultural Understanding

Issued December 5, 2024

Pathways to Cross-Cultural Understanding (PCCU) stands in solidarity with the people of South Korea who are speaking out against the alarming actions of the Yoon Suk Yeol administration.

The declaration of martial law on December 3rd, 2024, is a direct attack on freedom of speech and democratic principles. President Yoon's attempt to establish a dictatorship through violence and oppression poses a significant threat to the country and its people.

We strongly urge President Yoon to step down immediately. We commend the bravery of the Korean people as they fight to protect their families, their country, and their fundamental freedoms.

PCCU remains committed to our core values of hope, compassion, equity, and freedom for all. We believe in the power of true democracy to create a more just and harmonious world.

Finally, we absolutely condemn the use of violence against peaceful protesters and will continue to advocate for democracy in South Korea.

Feedback

"I would love PCCU to dive into the experiences of Asian-American students versus Asian (international) students. I think there are very interesting intersections and differences from which we could learn. There are aspects of the "Model Minority" myth and the "Asian threat" that hinder both groups' full access and sense of belonging within U.S. schools."

Get Involved

We are so happy you're interested in our work here at Pathways to Cross-Cultural Understanding!

There are so many ways for you to help, and we truly appreciate each and every effort. By lending your support, you’ll become a valuable part of our Non-Profit Organization and help to strengthen our operations. We expect that both PCCU and our partners will gain a great deal of advantages by working together as partners. The combined resources of PCCU and its partners will allow for a greater short-and long-term impact on the international students and the Asian community in the schools with more efficient use of community resources.
